Ceramic Sculpture - Thursday Mornings with Melinda, 07/03 - 08/07, 10:00am-1:00pm

I'm excited to share my passion and process in this immersive six session series where we'll sculpt a ceramic bust from the ground up.
What We'll Explore: A variety of sculptural techniques. Learn to bring your concepts to life in this versatile medium. Learn to create an armature as a base support for your sculpture.
Surface Magic: We'll delve into refining the surface of your sculpture, smoothing transitions, and adding subtle details that make all the difference.
Who is this for? Beginning to Advanced Students: Some prior experience with hand-building is recommended, but not necessary.

Hand Building and Sculptural Techniques in Clay - Saturday Mornings with Aldo, 07/05-08/09 , 10:00am-1:00pm.
In this 6 session workshop, participants will explore the traditional Japanese technique of carving ceramic vessels from a solid block of clay. Through hands-on instruction, they will learn how to create organic, sculptural forms such as bowls, cups, and tea vessels. Ideal for both beginners and intermediate potters, this workshop emphasizes creative expression and the natural textures that emerge from the carving process.

Kids' Summer Clay Camp: July 15th - July 18th, 10:00am - 12:00pm with Amanda
Get ready to squish, sculpt, and smile!
Our Kids Clay Camp is a hands-on, fun-filled experience where young artists can explore their creativity through the magical world of clay.
Designed for kids ages 5-12, this camp teaches the basics of hand-building, sculpting, and glazing in a playful, encouraging environment.
We will be using various methods to create at least 4 projects with real clay.
Projects will be coated with a food-safe glaze, and will need to be picked up 1-2 weeks after the camp so that they can be properly fired.
Each day brings new projects—think animals, bowls, plates, and more! Campers will learn real ceramic techniques, express their imaginations, and take home their unique creations.
No experience needed—just a love for getting a little messy and having a lot of fun!

Raku - Saturday Morning - August 2, 11am-4pm (Melinda & Mike)

Painted Paper Collage - 4 Week Workshop - 06/19-07/17 (Thursday Evenings with Maria, 6:00pm-9:00pm)
In this class the students will explore the possibilities of composition and color through painted paper collage, relying on the personal understanding of the color harmony and compositional balance rather than theories. We will work with simple shapes and compose with them working from observation, memory, and masters.

We will be learning MIG welding, a popular and widely used technique when working with steel. This is a hands-on class where you will learn skills to complete your own personal project from start to finish, including design, cutting, tack welds, and running a bead, as well as grinding and finishing. This class is perfect for artists or hobbyists that want to see how the creative welding process works while gaining confidence to explore the beautiful art of welding. Introductory class where students learn wheel-throwing fundamentals. Newcomers to the wheel will learn to center clay and throw basic cylindrical forms and bowls. Students with some experience are also welcome to improve their skills and be guided to try larger or more complex forms and/or hand-altered pieces. All students will learn how to glaze/decorate their finished work. New to beginner students welcome—no previous wheel-throwing experience necessary. (Material fee includes Clay, Firings and Glaze)

Mixed Level Stained Glass - Monday Afternoons w/ Kristin, 06/16-07/21, 2:00-5:00pm
Want to continue to perfect your stained glass skills? In this 6 session class, you will have the freedom to create your own pattern and perfect your cutting and soldering technique to create your own unique stained glass window of any size.
We will discuss everyone’s project plans in detail during the first class. Come to class prepared with an idea of what you would like to create. You can prepare your pattern out on paper or digitally. If you like to design a pattern digitally, bring a laptop to the first class.
You will have access to Burkhead Art Center’s stained glass tools and equipment but will need to purchase stained glass and other consumables, some of which are available to purchase onsite.
Class and materials fees cover the use of shared tools such as glass grinders, soldering irons and basic materials. You will need to purchase glass, solder, copper foil, and caming appropriate for your chosen project.

Interested in how traditional stained glass windows were made? Learn to create your own unique stained glass window with Kristin J. Harsma, a local stained glass artist, using the copper foil method. You will learn the complete process of making a small stained glass window starting with choosing a pattern, cutting the glass, foiling and finally soldering to complete the work. Other interesting and important highlights will include tips and safety precautions. You will pick 1 of 5 provided patterns, all designed by Kristin, or bring your own (no bigger than 10x10 inches for beginners) Class price covers all supplies and shared tools such as glass grinders and soldering irons. You are welcome to choose from our scrap glass or purchase your own. Class is 6 sessions.

Painting with Acrylics and Mixed Media (Thursday Afternoons with Joanne, 2:00pm-4:00pm)
Join me as we explore the exciting world of mixed-media painting!
Students will try essential techniques such as:
Collage & Stencils: Learn how to incorporate printed photos or illustrations into your artwork seamlessly - adhering, sealing, and blending images into your textured surface.
Creating 3D Textures: Discover how to use Crackle and Molding Pastes to build rich, dynamic textures that bring your painting to life and create different effects.
Painting with Acrylics: We will explore the basics of acrylics including materials, surfaces, brushes and other tools, and then a little about color theory, color mixing and composition.
This fun class is for everyone, from beginners to those who have painted before or former students who want to continue creating. Each student has the freedom to pick all the techniques or just one; it is a personal journey of individual expression!
Some supplies are included and an optional Materials List will be given out on the first day of class.
