This Beginning/Intermediate class is for those with basic jewelry soldering skills who want to add a new skill or perfect their setting technique. Bezel settings are extremely versatile and perfect for capturing any flat back stone. In this class students will choose from a variety of cabochons and learn how to build a basic bezel setting with fine and sterling silver. You’ll leave class with a bezel set pendant and the skills to make more on your own.

Painting with Acrylics and Mixed Media - Thursday Afternoons (Joanne)

Join me as we explore the exciting world of mixed-media painting!

Students will try essential techniques such as:

  1. Collage & Stencils: Learn how to incorporate printed photos or illustrations into your artwork seamlessly - adhering, sealing, and blending images into your textured surface.

  2. Creating 3D Textures: Discover how to use Crackle and Molding Pastes to build rich, dynamic textures that bring your painting to life and create different effects.

  3. Painting with Acrylics: We will explore the basics of acrylics including materials, surfaces, brushes and other tools, and then a little about color theory, color mixing and composition. 

This fun class is for everyone, from beginners to those who have painted before or former students who want to continue creating. Each student has the freedom to pick all the techniques or just one; it is a personal journey of individual expression!

Some supplies are included and an optional Materials List will be given out on the first day of class.

Interested in how traditional stained glass windows were made? Learn to create your own unique stained glass window with Kristin J. Harsma, a local stained glass artist, using the copper foil method. You will learn the complete process of making a small stained glass window starting with choosing a pattern, cutting the glass, foiling and finally soldering to complete the work. Other interesting and important highlights will include tips and safety precautions. You will pick 1 of 5 provided patterns, all designed by Kristin, or bring your own (no bigger than 10x10 inches for beginners) Class price covers all supplies and shared tools such as glass grinders and soldering irons. You are welcome to choose from our scrap glass or purchase your own. Class is 6 sessions.

In this 2-session introductory jewelry soldering workshop students will learn the basic equipment, safety, tools, and materials for soldering silver and copper metals You’ll explore ways to control the butane torch with confidence and be able to set up a simple soldering station at home regardless of your space limitations. In class, we’ll cover different solder types and temperatures, metal properties and applications for multi operation soldering. This is a fast paced and super fun workshop that will give you the knowledge and skill set to inspire your own unique vision.
